The Knoxville City Council approved a resolution, eight to one, on first reading last week, that would allocate a portion of new potential sales tax revenue to affordable housing.
On Tuesday, Knoxville voters will decide whether to approve a 0.5 percentage-point increase in the sales tax, from 2.25 percent to 2.75 percent.

Tamar Shirinian, who taught anthropology at the university, made an inappropriate comment after Kirk was assassinated in September.
The Washington County Commission approved a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that will allow the county to take part in the federal government’s Section 287(g) program.
This federal law enforcement program allows the federal government to enter into agreements with local and state law enforcement so they “can perform certain functions of an immigration officer,” the MOA states.
