U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA-01) announced his endorsements of two Republican candidates seeking election in Tennessee’s 6th and 9th Congressional Districts on Monday.

Scalise endorsed State Rep. Johnny Garrett (R-Goodlettsville) in the 6th Congressional District race and State Senator Brent Taylor (R-Memphis), who is running for the newly-redrawn 9th Congressional District.

In his endorsement of Garrett, Scalise said the state representative would work in Congress to “defend conservative family values, grow our economy, and Make America Great Again.”

“I am proud to endorse Johnny Garrett in Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. Johnny Garrett is a Christian conservative, State Representative, and seventh-generation Tennessean dedicated to protecting President Trump’s America First movement,” Scalise added.

In a statement released by his campaign, Garrett said, “When President Trump returned to office, he made it clear that he needed strong conservatives willing to fight alongside him for the America First Agenda, take on the woke mob, and help drain the DC swamp. Majority Leader Scalise has been a steadfast voice in that fight, assisting President Trump as he ushered us into the Golden Age of America– just like he promised.”

“I’m deeply humbled and honored to have his endorsement, and I look forward to working together to continue delivering real results for Tennesseans and the American people,” Garrett added.

In his endorsement of Taylor in the 9th Congressional District, Scalise said, “Brent is a successful small business owner, proven conservative leader, and State Senator who has spent his career fighting for safer communities, stronger schools, and Tennessee families.”

“In the State Senate, Brent has stood with President Trump and, in Congress, he will continue fighting for the President’s agenda and help usher America into its Golden Age. That’s why he has my complete and total endorsement,” Scalise added.

Taylor said he “looks forward” to working with Scalise and President Donald Trump to “Take Tennessee to the Top under President Trump’s America First Agenda,” adding, “I will continue my work to fight illegal immigration, tackle crime, and stop China from harming Tennessee’s farms and businesses.”

Early voting for the August 6 primary elections begins July 17 and runs through August 1.
