President Donald Trump will give his State of the Union Address tonight before Congress.
This will be Trump’s first State of the Union speech of his second term in the White House.
The speech will start at 9 pm EST.
At Trump’s joint address to Congress last year, he spoke for 90 minutes.
According to National Public Radio, Trump is expected to talk about immigration, tariffs, and foreign policy.
PBS reported that Trump is expected to announce that tech companies with data centers will pay higher electricity rates in areas where they operate.
The outlet also said the president will call on the House Democrats to reopen the Department of Homeland Security.
Questions are surrounding how the president will address the Supreme Court justices attending his speech. In recent days, Trump has been critical of the Court’s decision to overturn his tariff policy.
“Any Country that wants to ‘play games’ with the ridiculous supreme court decision, especially those that have ‘Ripped Off’ the U.S.A. for years, and even decades, will be met with a much higher Tariff, and worse, than that which they just recently agreed to. BUYER BEWARE!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the president noted on Truth Social.
For the speech, elected officials and Trump have invited numerous guests.
Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, will attend the speech as a guest of Trump’s.
Members of the American men’s hockey team will also be attending as guests of Trump.
Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ-04) will bring the daughter of Jimmy Lai, who was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison after being critical of the Chinese Communist Party.
“The only ‘crime’ that Jimmy committed was telling the truth, which is why we must remain resolute in our efforts to raise awareness of this grave injustice and to call for his immediate release,” Smith noted.
Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN-08) announced he will be bringing independent journalists Nick Shirley and David Hoch. Shirley and Hoch uncovered alleged widespread fraud in Minneapolis involving the city’s Somali community.
On the Democratic side, Representatives Jamie Raskin (D-MD-08) and Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA-10) will bring family members of Virginia Giuffre, who was a victim of Jeffrey Epstein’s international trafficking ring.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA-17) and James Walkinshaw (D-VA-11) will have Epstein accusers as their guests for the speech.
For the Democrats, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger will be giving the response to Trump’s speech.
