A doctor who works for the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has been arrested and charged with child sexual exploitation charges, arrest records provided by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office show.
Dr. Kevin J. Preece was arrested and booked into the Sumner County Jail on Thursday afternoon and is being held on a $1.15 million bond, according to jail records.
According to a report by NewsChannel 5, Preece’s Thursday arrest followed an execution of a search warrant at the doctor’s Goodlettsville home. He is charged with 15 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
The outlet said the investigation into Preece remains ongoing, and “no further details are being released at this time.”
The 48-year old is an Instructor in Clinical Anesthesiology specializing in multispecialty anesthesiology and ambulatory anesthesiology, according to VUMC’s website.
Preece completed his anesthesiology residency at VUMC in Nashville in 2012 and earned his MD from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2008. He is board certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology, earning certification in 2013.
Further, Preece has published research in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology examining cardiac changes following gastric bypass surgery.
Under Tennessee law, Preece’s medical license could be revoked pursuant to Tennessee Code § 63-6-214, which grants the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners broad authority to discipline physicians, including the permanent revocation of a license.
Specifically, the statute allows revocation for unprofessional or unethical conduct, violations of criminal laws, and felony offenses involving moral turpitude or sexual offenses, providing a clear legal basis for license revocation following investigation and disciplinary proceedings.
Tennessee law requires the Tennessee Department of Health to publish a monthly media release reporting all disciplinary actions taken by health-related boards in the previous month.
