U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett Seeking to Chair DOGE Subcommittee

by | Dec 3, 2025

Tennessee U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN-02) said he has formally submitted his name to be considered to lead the U.S. House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“I have officially put my name in to chair the DOGE committee,” Burchett said in a video posted to X on Wednesday.

The DOGE subcommittee was created to oversee the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), implemented by the Trump administration, and work to implement the department’s recommendations on how to root out and reduce wasteful government spending.

The subcommittee is currently chaired by U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14), who announced her resignation from Congress last month with her last day being January 5, 2026.

Burchett, who has been a member of the subcommittee since its creation, said he believes he has the “backbone” and “guts” to root out wasteful spending and hold legislators’ feet to the fire when it comes to cutting such funds.

“I think I have the backbone and, I guess, the guts to go after this spending and I think I know where a lot of it is hidden. I’ve proposed some dadgum legislation to do it and I would get with folks like y’all out there on social media to put some pressure on some of these gutless legislators to pass some of this stuff,” Burchett said.

While calling his wish to become chair of the subcommittee a “long shot,” Burchett emphasized he “sure would love the opportunity.”

“I know the cards are stacked against me, I don’t do a lot to endear myself to leadership, but frankly, they don’t do a lot themselves to endear themselves to me. You all know how this game works, you gotta raise a lot of money and kiss a lot of butt – I don’t do a good job at either one of those,” the Tennessee congressman said.
