by | Dec 11, 2025

Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster, a two-time Tennessee Tech University (TTU) graduate, has been appointed to the university’s Board of Trustees by House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville).

Foster, who has been serving as mayor since 2018, earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and master’s degree in Strategic Leadership from TTU.

His late wife, Rebecca, is also a two-time graduate of TTU’s Whitson Hester School of Nursing and a former member of the university’s Development Council and the Nursing Advisory Board. Following her passing, the Rebecca Foster Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established to support TTU nursing students.

Foster’s daughter also holds two degrees from TTU and serves on the university’s Development Council while his son attended TTU where he played football before taking a job in law enforcement with the City of Crossville.

In addition to his newest role on the Board of Trustees, Foster (pictured above, left) also serves on the executive boards of several regional organizations, including the Association of County Mayors, the Upper Cumberland Development District, and the Human Resource Agency.

“I am deeply honored to be appointed to the Tennessee Tech University Board of Trustees and grateful to Speaker Sexton for this opportunity to serve an institution that has meant so much to my family,” Foster said in a statement.

“Rebecca’s life and work as a nurse and proud Tennessee Tech graduate remain a source of inspiration as I work alongside my fellow trustees to support TTU’s mission and ensure it remains a place where students can pursue their dreams,” he added.

As a member of the Board, Foster will “help oversee strategic planning, academic priorities, fiscal stewardship, and long-term institutional growth at one of the state’s premier public universities.”

Upon announcing Foster’s appointment, Sexton (pictured above, right) said the mayor has “consistently demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and integrity in his service to the citizens of Tennessee.”

“I am confident he will bring those same values to Tennessee Tech’s Board of Trustees as they continue guiding the university’s mission of excellence in education, innovation, and workforce development,” Sexton added.

Foster’s term runs through June 30, 2031.
