A Guatemalan national and Honduran national in the U.S. illegally were arrested on warrants and immigration charges in Memphis this week by authorities operating under the Memphis Safe Task Force.

On Sunday afternoon, 26-year-old Nelson Gomez‑Lopez was taken into custody on active warrants for Aggravated Stalking, Vandalism, and Filing a False Police Report. He was also charged with being in the U.S. illegally and VISA/Immigration Document Fraud, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The agency said the arrest of Gomez-Lopez “underscores the Task Force’s relentless pursuit of offenders who threaten public safety and its commitment to holding them accountable.”

“Through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local partners, the Task Force ensures that individuals engaged in violent or unlawful activity are swiftly identified, located, apprehended, and brought to justice,” the agency added.

Further, 52-year-old Honduran national Alex Rodriguez was arrested on an outstanding state warrant for Rape of a Child and Aggravated Sexual Battery. The warrant, according to the U.S. Marshals, alleges that the victim of Rodriguez’s offenses was between the ages of 8 and 13 years old.

The arrest of Rodriguez, the agency said, “underscores the Memphis Safe Task Force’s continued commitment to violent crime suppression and fugitive apprehension.”

As of Tuesday, authorities have made 2,836 arrests, seized 462 firearms and “substantial quantities of narcotics and related contraband,” and located 115 missing children in carrying out the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative.

The U.S. Marshals Service, the head agency of the Memphis Safe Task Force, emphasized that the initiative “will leave no stone unturned in its quest to make Memphis communities safe.”

“When there is a fence, we will go over it. When there is a door, we will go through it. When there is resistance, we will overcome it. Our commitment is unwavering, offenders who threaten Memphis neighborhoods will be found, apprehended, and brought to justice. Through relentless pursuit and coordinated action, the Task Force stands as a shield for Memphis families and a force for accountability,” the agency said.
