AOC, Al Gore Set to Campaign for TN-7 Democrat Aftyn Behn

by | Nov 30, 2025

State Rep. Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville), the Democratic nominee for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, is set to hold a Get Out the Vote (GOTV) virtual rally on Monday featuring special guests U.S. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA-07), former Vice President Al Gore, and LaTosha Brown, co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund.

The rally, hosted virtually on Zoom, will be held from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Monday, December 1 – one day before voters head to the polls for the special general election. An announcement touting the event featuring the announces guests was posted on X Saturday, but appears now to be deleted.

Behn is also set to hold an election night watch party on Tuesday at Marathon Music Works in Nashville.

The lineup of headliner Democrats stumping for Behn comes as the Democratic nominee is reportedly trailing Republican nominee Matt Van Epps by just two points, according to an Emerson College poll. However, the poll’s methodology has been scrutinized due to its sample size, which included a disproportionate number of Democratic respondents compared with recent vote returns in the 7th District.

Over the weekend, Behn, who has described herself as a “very radical person,” was endorsed by State Rep. Justin Pearson (D-Memphis), her colleague in the Tennessee House, who is running for Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District against incumbent Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-09).

Behn has also received the nod from other notable Democrats in recent days as Election Day draws near, including U.S. Rep. and California gubernatorial candidate Eric Swalwell (D-CA-14), who is currently under investigation for mortgage fraud. Earlier this month, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX-30) headlined a campaign event for the Tennessee Democrat.

Behn’s main opponent in the race, Trump-endorsed Van Epps, is also set to hold two GOTV rallies on Monday featuring several high-profile Republicans.

At 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Van Epps will hold a rally in Franklin featuring House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA-04), Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters, Tennessee Republican Party Chair Scott Golden, Governor Bill Lee, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), U.S. Reps. Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), and John Rose (R-TN-06), Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R-Franklin), and other Tennessee state legislators.

Van Epps will go on to hold another rally Monday featuring Johnson, Gruters, and Golden in Clarksville at 5:00 p.m., which will also host State Senator Bill Powers (R-Clarksville), State Representative Aaron Maberry (R-Clarksville), Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden, and other local election officials.

Election Day is Tuesday, December 2.
