Tennessee Republicans backed Israel on the second anniversary of October 7th
In 2023, Hamas militants invaded Israel, killing an estimated 1,200 people and taking over 250 people hostage. Right now, Hamas still holds 48 hostages.
This event started the outbreak of war between Israel and Palestine. Almost 70,000 Palestinians have been estimated to have been killed during the conflict so far, while Israel has also seen nearly 2,000 people killed.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said on X, “Hamas terrorists unleashed unimaginable horror on Israel, taking the lives of countless innocent civilians.”
Blackburn added that “we mourn the precious lives lost and renew our commitment to standing against evil and ensuring every remaining hostage is reunited with their loved ones.”
Tennessee’s other senator, Bill Hagerty, stated, “Hamas terrorists launched a brutal attack on Israel.”
“We will never forget the innocent lives lost, and we must remain steadfast in our support for Israel as it defends itself against Iran-backed terror,” he noted.
Representative David Kustoff (R-TN-08), who is among the 36 Jewish members of Congress, said when “Hamas terrorists” invaded Israel two years ago, the world changed forever.
“These savage terrorists murdered men, women, and children; violently took more than 250 people hostage, including Americans; and then despicably celebrated the bloodshed and loss of life,” he stated.
Kustoff added that America and the rest of the world “must be committed to the security and sovereignty of Israel” to make sure an event like October 7th doesn’t happen again.
The representative said he is “committed to ensuring Israel has the resources she needs to defend herself and her people.”
In a video, Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN-04) recounted the terrible things shown to Congress on tapes by the Israeli government. He called Hamas militants a “bunch of demonic dirtbags.”
The representative said Israel “has a right to defend [itself] against this evil.” He added that he hopes the hostages can be brought home “soon.”
Currently, Israel and Hamas are in Egypt negotiating a peace deal to bring an end to the war.
