Trump Threatens Additional Tariffs on China

by | Apr 7, 2025

President Donald Trump reacted to China’s retaliatory tariffs by threatening additional tariffs on the country.

Last week, China announced a 34 percent tariff on American products after Trump unveiled a 34 percent reciprocal tariff on the Chinese.

However, Trump on Monday, said more tariffs may be added to the communist country.

“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” he said on Truth Social.

The president said that if China doesn’t remove its tariffs, all talks regarding its “requested meetings” will be eliminated.

“On top of their already record setting Tariffs, Non-Monetary Tariffs, Illegal Subsidization of companies, and massive long term Currency Manipulation, despite my warning that any country that Retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional Tariffs, above and beyond their already existing long term Tariff abuse of our Nation, will be immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set,” the president said on Monday.

Last week, Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs on countries with which America has large trade deficits. A 10 percent tariff has already been imposed on imports from other countries.

Other Asian countries, such as India and Japan, received a 27 percent and 24 percent reciprocal tariff, respectively.

Cambodia (49 percent) and Laos (48 percent) received the highest reciprocal tariffs in Asia.

Vietnam got hit with a 46 percent reciprocal tariff, but the country has been working with Trump to lower this.

Lesotho and Saint Pierre Miquelon have the highest reciprocal tariffs on their items, which is now 50 percent.

The reciprocal tariffs will occur on Wednesday.

“These tariffs will remain in effect until such a time as President Trump determines that the threat posed by the trade deficit and underlying nonreciprocal treatment is satisfied, resolved, or mitigated,” Trump’s executive order on the reciprocal tariffs said.
