DHS Removes Legal Status for Foreign Nationals Who Came to America Through CBP One App

by | Apr 8, 2025

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) eliminated parole protections this week for almost 1 million foreign nationals who came into America using the CBP One app.

“Canceling these paroles is a promise kept to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security,” a DHS spokesperson said, according to The New York Post.

“Formal termination notices have been issued, and affected aliens are urged to voluntarily self-deport using the CBP Home App. Those who refuse will be found, removed, and permanently barred from reentry,” the DHS spokesperson added.

This app was used by people coming to the country illegally to claim asylum. Now, the CBP One app is being used to help illegal immigrants self-deport.

“The Biden Administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than 1 million aliens to illegally enter the United States. With the launching of the CBP Home app, we are restoring integrity to our immigration system,” Homeland Security Krisi Noem explained.

According to The Hill, the Trump administration started sending emails to foreign nationals affected by this decision to self-deport.

The DHS said that during the Biden administration, over 1 million people used the app to come into America illegally.

The Trump administration has tried to remove the legal status of many foreign nationals who came to America while Joe Biden was president.

Last month, the DHS removed the status of over 532,000 foreign nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who came to America under a sponsorship process.

The Trump administration attempted to remove Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans. TPS allows foreign nationals to stay in America if the federal government finds it unsafe for them to return to their country. These people can work and not be deported.

However, a Barack Obama-appointed judge blocked the administration from removing the Venezuelans’ TPS status.
