DHS Issues Waiver to ‘Immediately’ Build Border Wall in California

by | Apr 8, 2025

The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a waiver on Tuesday to build a new border wall in California.

This waiver will allow this 2.5-mile border wall to be built immediately.

DHS’ waiver will waive environmental laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act. The DHS press release says these regulations could have delineated the construction of the border wall for “months or even years.”

“This waiver clears the path for the rapid deployment of physical barriers where they are needed most, reinforcing our commitment to national security and the rule of law,” the press release says.

The construction of the border wall will occur in the San Diego area. It will be divided into three building projects:

SDC Jacumba Gap Wall Project (~2 miles)
SDC Smugglers Gulch Wall Project (~350 feet)
SDC 4 Wall Project (~600 feet and ~1,500 feet)

This new border wall will “close critical gaps in the border barrier and enhance border security operations in the San Diego (SDC) Sector,” the press release says.

The San Diego area was a commonplace for illegal immigrants who came into America during the Biden administration.

Regarding the environmental concern, Earthjustice Associate Legislative Representative Cameron Walkup said the DHS’ actions cause “harm to border communities and ecosystems.”

“Rather than rushing to spend tens of billions of dollars to help President Trump build even more wasteful border wall through a budget reconciliation package, Congress should focus on rescinding these waivers and remediating the significant damage that has already been caused by the wall,” Walkup stated.

During President Donald Trump’s short time in office, he has secured America’s borders.

In the last two months, America encountered only 15,527 illegal immigrants at its southern border.

When Joe Biden was president, the average monthly southern border encounters were 155,000.
