U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced Tuesday that the agency recorded a record-low number of southern border encounters in March.
Last month, CBP said it encountered 7,180 illegal aliens, a daily average of 230 people.
“Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, the administration has taken bold, decisive action to restore control at the border. Border Patrol agents are empowered like never before to shut down unlawful entry and protect American lives,” said Acting Commissioner Pete Flores.
“The message is clear: the border is closed to illegal crossings, and for those still willing to test our resolve, know this — you will be prosecuted, and you will be deported,” Flores added.
March’s border encounter numbers are even lower than February’s when the CBP only apprehended 8,347 illegal aliens, an average of 330 per day.
In reaction to the news, Border Czar Tom Homan said on X when he started as a border patrol agent in 1984, he couldn’t “recall a single month since then that the numbers have been that low.”
“The men and women of the Border Patrol have proven what they can accomplish when they are allowed to do their job and complete the mission of their agency. The last administration had the Border Patrol releasing millions of illegal aliens into the United States, which caused more and more to come,” Homan explained.
The monthly encounters at the southern border have decreased significantly under President Donald Trump. CBP said that under the Biden administration, the average monthly southern border encounters were 155,000, or an average of 5,100 encounters per day.
A House Committee on Homeland Security report estimated that during former President Joe Biden’s term, 10 million illegal aliens came into America.
