Blackburn Explains How Republicans Are Protecting Entitlement Programs

by | Apr 11, 2025

U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is pushing back against false claims about the Trump administration and Republicans’ efforts to cut waste, fraud, and abuse within Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

On Friday, Blackburn’s office released a fact sheet titled “How Republicans Are Protecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”

Blackburn’s fact sheet comes as Democrats continue to claim that Republicans and the work of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) seek to defund the federal programs.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), for example, claimed on the Senate floor Thursday that Republicans “want to gut” Social Security despite the president maintaining that his administration “will not cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid benefits.”

Blackburn’s fact sheet echoes the president’s promise, explaining that Republicans and DOGE are focused on “reducing government waste, fraud, and abuse” within the federal programs.

“Despite media lies to the contrary, Republicans are protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits,” the fact sheet reads. “President Trump has made it clear and Senate Republicans agree that benefits for Americans who are playing by the rules and working hard should not be cut.”

The fact sheet points out instances where DOGE has confirmed that 1.3 million individuals who secured a fraudulent Social Security number also received Medicare benefits and identified 10 million cases where Social Security number holders were over 120 years old.

Further, Blackburn pointed out how the Trump administration has called for cutting taxes on seniors’ benefits, an effort the Tennessee senator has worked to advance by introducing the RETIREES FIRST Act.

Billionaire Elon Musk, who oversees DOGE, has also ensured that the agency’s audit of the federal programs “is to stop the extreme levels of fraud taking place, so that it remains solvent and protects the social security checks of honest Americans.”

“DOGE will make sure you get your Social Security, DOGE will make sure you get your Medicaid. There will be no cuts to legitimate payments, whatsoever,” Musk has said.
