Tennessee House Majority Whip Johnny Garrett (R-Goodlettsville) confirmed Friday he is giving “thoughtful consideration” to launch a bid for Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District.
“Tennessee’s Sixth Congressional District is overwhelmingly conservative, and our neighbors deserve a representative with a solid conservative record who will join President Trump in advancing the America-first agenda, fix the economy, fight inflation, secure the border, continue the fight keeping men out of women’s sports, and keep our country safe and secure,” Garrett said in a statement sent to The Tennessee Star.
“My family and I are taking some time to pray and listen to our community before making any final decisions about a campaign. My goal remains the same regardless of the location or capacity of service: fight for the conservative values that make Tennessee the greatest state in the nation to live, work and raise a family,” Garrett (pictured above) added.
Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District is currently represented by incumbent U.S. Representative John Rose (R-TN-06), who, on Thursday, launched a bid for Tennessee governor, as previously reported by The Star.
Rose was first elected to Congress in 2018. He recently won reelection by 36 percentage points over Democratic nominee Lore Bergman in the November general election.
A total of 19 counties – Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, Davidson, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Scott, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, White, and Wilson – make up Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District.
Garrett was elected to the Tennessee House in 2018 and has run for reelection uncontested by a Republican since. He recently won reelection against Democratic nominee Alison Beale in the November general election by over 35 percentage points.
Tennessee state representatives and U.S. representatives both serve two-year terms and are not subject to term limits.
