Michael Patrick Leahy, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of The Tennessee Star, said the “battle” between the individuals who oppose and support a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine boils down to the common ideologies that are shared within each crowd.
Leahy made the remarks on Monday during his talk radio show, The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, in between taking calls from listeners on the topic of Ukraine and arguing that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s performance at the White House last week showed he is an “ungrateful grifter punk” who is “not dealing in good faith” and “does not want peace” for his country more than three years after its war with Russia began.
On Friday, Zelensky left Washington D.C. empty-handed after being ordered by President Donald Trump to depart the White House after a disastrous Oval Office meeting unfolded in front of the media.
While meeting with Zelensky inside the Oval Office, Trump said the Ukrainian President was being “disrespectful” for his pushback against the U.S., suggesting a diplomatic solution could be reached with Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
After Zelensky left D.C. without signing an anticipated mineral deal, he traveled to London, where he met with a group of over European leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who vowed to support Ukraine with “boots on the ground and planes in the air.”
Then, on Sunday, Zelensky maintained that the end of Ukraine’s war with Russia is “very, very far away.”
Taking all of this into account, Leahy said individuals on both sides of the issue can be coupled into two groups that share polarizing ideologies – those who believe in “individual liberty and constitutionally limited government” and those who believe in “globalist totalitarianism.”
“This is a significant change in global politics, it’s a change in an era and it reflects different ideologies. On the one hand are those who believe in individual liberty and constitutionally limited government like us and Donald Trump. That’s on the one hand, and that’s basically two thirds of America,” Leahy explained.
“On the other hand, you have this globalist totalitarian crowd. That’s two thirds of Europe, of the leadership of Europe – France, UK, etc. – as well as, I would say, two thirds of Canada, and a third, maybe a declining number, here in the United States of America. That’s what this battle is about. That’s exactly what this battle is about,” Leahy added.
