A new Gallup poll released Monday shows Americans are “more optimistic” about the upcoming economy under President Donald Trump.
The poll found that 53 percent of Americans think the country will see economic growth over the next six months. Republicans (78 percent) and independents (61 percent) were much more optimistic than Democrats (21 percent).
When asked the same question in 2023, only 36 percent of Americans thought there would be economic growth.
Also, according to the poll, 41 percent of Americans “are hopeful” interest rates will fall. Another 35 percent of people said they expect interest rates to increase.
The poll says 52 percent of Americans think inflation will rise, which is down from previous years.
“Americans are generally hopeful about the economy in the next six months. Part of this optimism stems from Republicans expecting things to improve under a Republican rather than Democratic president,” the Gallup poll says. “But the broader improvements in Americans’ outlook may also reflect their confidence in Trump’s ability to handle the economy.”
Under Trump’s first term in office, America’s unemployment rate in December 2019 was 3.6 percent. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after he left office, the unemployment rate stood at 6.4 percent.
When Trump took office the second time, America had an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent.
For Trump’s first term, America experienced inflation of 1.9 percent, whereas under former President Joe Biden, America had 5.2 percent inflation.
Gallup released a poll in January showing that most Americans think Biden’s presidency will be viewed “unfavorably rather than favorably.”
As of February 2, Trump signed 47 executive orders. Many of which rolled back some of the executive orders Biden implemented during his administration.
