NAACP Tells Black Americans to Avoid Companies That Eliminated DEI

by | Feb 17, 2025

The NAACP released its Black Consumer Advisory (BCA) last week, which told black Americans to avoid companies that eliminated DEI programs.

Since President Donald Trump won the presidential election in November, many companies eliminated these woke programs. Robby Starbuck, a filmmaker based in Tennessee, has pressured many companies, including Target, McDonald’s, Nissan, and Walmart, to roll back these policies.

Other companies that have eroded their DEI programs include Google, Disney, Facebook, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, GM, and PayPal.

NAACP said the companies that have dismissed their DEI programs “threaten economic opportunities, workplace diversity, and community investments” for black Americans.

“Many corporations continue to profit from Black dollars while simultaneously undermining DEI commitments. These rollbacks not only harm Black communities, professionals, and entrepreneurs but also erode the progress made toward creating equitable economic and social systems,” the BCA says.

Black Americans have a purchasing power of almost $2 trillion annually, according to the BCA.

To avoid companies that axed their DEI programs, the NAACP recommends the following actions to black Americans: “spend intentionally,” “demand accountability,” “support black-owned businesses,” “advocate for change,” and “stay informed.”

The NAACP called the eradication of DEI programs a direct attack on black Americans’ “economic progress, civil rights, and the principles of equity and fairness.”

“We urge Black consumers to remain vigilant, informed, and intentional in their economic decisions, using their collective power to demand accountability from
corporations and institutions,” the NAACP said. “Together, we can push for meaningful progress and ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are prioritized and expanded.”

At the federal level, Trump ended the DEI programs last month.

When this occurred, the NAACP President Derrick Johnson called the president’s actions “outrageous.”

“DEI programs help ensure that everyone can prosper. It’s clear that President Trump does not value equal opportunity,” Johnson said.

“His appalling executive order will only worsen America’s racial hierarchy and benefit the oligarch class,” he added. “This executive order threatens public services that benefit all Americans; it’s an attempt to consolidate power and money to a few wealthy individuals. And poor and working-class people will pay the price.”
