by | Jan 21, 2025

Tennessee U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07), who chairs the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, praised President Donald Trump for signing multiple executive orders on Monday focused on border security and enforcement.

Hours after taking the oath of office inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, Trump signed a total of 42 executive orders, memoranda, and proclamations in the Oval Office which resulted in a combined 200 executive actions and 115 personnel actions.

Among the actions Trump took on Monday focused on securing U.S. borders included signing an executive order declaring a national emergency at the southern border, revoking nearly 80 executive actions and orders implemented during the Biden administration, and signing an executive order ending birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants.

In addition, Trump took actions to shut down the CBP One app, end catch-and-release programs, resume the Remain in Mexico policy, continue construction of a border wall, and designate the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

As chairman of the House Homeland Committee, which focuses on legislation and oversight related to the security of the nation, Green applauded Trump’s actions taken on the border, saying, “Nothing exemplifies a new day in America more than President Trump’s unwavering commitment to border security and restoring enforcement of our nation’s laws. ”

“Following four long years of historic chaos and dangerous threats from transnational criminal organizations, our Border Patrol agents, CBP officers, and ICE officers will once again have the tools they need to accomplish their essential, life-saving mission,” Green added.

Looking towards the future, Green said the actions taken by Trump has given the Homeland Security Committee a “strong foundation” to “hit the ground running to work with the Trump administration and other Committees of jurisdiction to fulfill our commitments to public safety and the security of the homeland.”
