Tennessee U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles Introduces the Make Greenland Great Again Act

Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) introduced a bill on Monday that would authorize President-elect Donald Trump to enter negotiations with Denmark for the U.S. to acquire Greenland once he is inaugurated as the 47th president.

As the world’s largest island, Greenland is a North American island autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The Make Greenland Great Again Act would authorize Trump, beginning on January 20, to “seek to enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States,” according to its text first obtained by Fox News.

If Trump secures an agreement with Denmark for the U.S. to acquire Greenland, the bill requires that all related materials and annexes related to the deal be transmitted within five calendar days to the respective committees on foreign affairs of the U.S. House and Senate.

The bill gives Congress 60 days within receiving the materials related to a deal between the U.S. and Denmark regarding Greenland to review the agreement, and if Congress enacts no joint resolution of disapproval, the agreement will take effect and “take the full force of law.”

“American economic and security interests will no longer take a backseat, and House Republicans are ready to help President Trump deliver for the American people,” Ogles said in a post published to X.

Ogles’ bill is cosponsored by ten Republicans, including fellow Tennessee U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) and U.S. Representatives Mike Lawler (R-NY-17), Michael Rulli (R-OH-06), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-02), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL-13), Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), Neal Dunn (R-FL-02), Barry Moore (R-AL-01), Randy Weber (R-TX-14), and Brian Babin (R-TX-36).

Trump has previously said that the U.S. “ownership and control” of Greenland is “an absolute necessity” for “purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World.”

Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) announced Friday it has selected Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School student Hannah Said to serve as the next student member of the Metro Nashville Board of Education, placing a student who has pledged a “deep commitment to social justice” in a prominent advisory role on the district’s governing body.

She succeeds Hannah Nguyen, who graduated from John Overton High School in May.
