EJ Haust, a digital marketing expert and official guest host of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, said Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles’ (R-TN-05) proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution, allowing President Donald Trump to serve a third term shuts down the conversations about former President Joe Biden’s claim that a 28th Amendment to the Constitution has been ratified.
Before leaving office, Biden declared on January 17 that the Equal Rights Amendment had met the ratification requirements to officially become the “law of the land” as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution.
Haust said that while Ogles’ proposal that would allow Trump to serve a third term does not have a chance of passing the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate by a two-thirds majority vote and being ratified by 38 U.S. states, the conversation surrounding the congressman’s idea shuts down Biden’s claim about the Equal Rights Amendment.
“[Biden’s] people put a post out there on X and made a big deal and on the White House website that the 28th Amendment has now been ratified, which of course is not true. We don’t have an actual 28th Amendment, but if Andy Ogles can bring up [his proposal] which is just as ridiculous, perhaps we can kind of tamp down that conversation about the 28th Amendment,” Haust explained.
Haust added that Ogles’ tactic of “bringing attention to something ridiculous to make a point” has sparked a productive conversation surrounding the requirements needed for a constitutional amendment to be ratified, requirements of which were not met in Biden’s 28th Amendment claim.
“We’re not changing amendments, but you know what is interesting about this? Everybody’s going to be talking about what’s required for an amendment,” Haust said.
“We’re thinking chess, not checkers,” Haust added.
