Arizona GOP Chair: Trump New York Criminal Sentencing a ‘Desperate Attempt’ by the Left to ‘Silence the One Man Who Puts America First’

by | Jan 11, 2025

Chair of the Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP) Gina Swoboda released a statement on Friday reacting to President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing in the New York City hush money trial, describing the entire case as a “desperate attempt” by the Democratic left to “silence” Trump.

In May 2024, Trump was found guilty by a New York jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records in the Stormy Daniels hush money case.

Trump was sentenced on Friday by New York Judge Juan Merchan for the conviction to an “unconditional discharge” meaning the president-elect will not serve jail time, probation, or pay a fine.

Noting New York’s “unprecedented crime and theft” epidemic, Swoboda denounced the left for spending “millions of taxpayer dollars and years of government resources to push a sham Witch Hunt” in her Friday statement.

“This blatant political weaponization to attack the leading candidate – and now the incoming President – is a disgrace to our nation. This failed case was never about justice – it was about silencing the one man who puts America first,” Swoboda said.

Swoboda went on to say that Trump’s sentencing of unconditional discharge is proof that the case against him was nothing but a “ploy” from the left to brand him as a “convicted felon.”

“This weaponization of our judicial system and attack on political opponents is one of many reasons that President Trump OVERWHELMINGLY won this election,” Swoboda said.

Comparing the left’s failed efforts to “take down Trump” to their unpopular policies with American voters, Swoboda applauded the president-elect for staying “focused” on the task ahead as he prepares to become the 47th president.

“President Trump has once again proven that he is a fighter for the American people. Despite the Left’s endless smear campaigns and weaponized justice system, he remains focused on restoring prosperity and greatness to this nation. In just 10 days, our country will be ready to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Swoboda added.
